What a difference 6 weeks makes. Foundations and steelwork have all been completed ahead of programme with no delays. A testament to detailed coordination with the whole design team in 3D and 2D alike. Shame the steel didn’t get installed in SD Purple though… Read more about the project here >> Howards Chase
Months in the design and mock-up along with architects Smith and Newton, these unique timber portal frames utilise bespoke hidden steel plate and dowel connections to express the natural beauty of the larch. Still in construction, a fully glazed roof structure and oversized larch doors will complete the envelope of the side and rear extension.
RC detailing hasn’t changed much for the last 60 years. 2D drawings are created to show every bar required on the project and a separate schedule is then manually created. This is a slow, tedious process and mistakes are often found onsite when the wrong bars turn up. SD Structures are pioneering 3D reinforcement detailing.…
One of SD Structures first projects is nearing completion. We walked past the Zero Alfred Road site yesterday and found the scaffolding is now down and lucky new home owners should be moving in in a few weeks. A full plan basement was excavated in close proximty to three neighbours, including a multi storey car…

The work that SD produced in the pre-construction and budget phase was invaluable. The detailed 3D modelling enabled us to look at how much of the building would be saved and the structural requirements in achieving the concept design. As a client we have been very demanding but SD have continued to support the scheme and deliver solutions to all our requests.

SD Structures designed vinegar production portal frame building is now open for business. The huge vats have been installed and production is underway!
SD structures are a pleasure to work with and make a great contribution to the design team. They make the process of coordinating the structural and architectural strategies very simple. Collaborating through Revit granted us invaluable foresight, while their keenness throughout the process to tailor the structural solution to the client’s priorities was of critical benefit in ensuring design quality.Oliver Cooke - Director - Cooke Fawcett Architects
We enjoyed working with Mike on the Tate St Ives Project because of his appreciation of good design and attention to detail. Since setting up SD Structures, we asked Mike and his team to help us with a residential warehouse conversion project. The structure was thoughtfully developed; utilising cantilevered steels, hangers and transfers structures, without comprise to the architecture.Jamie Fobert - Director - Jamie Fobert Architects
SD Structures are pioneering the use of augmented reality on its latest projects. We can take the 3D building model and project it onto a table so the design team can explore it from different angles and spot coordination issues. When onsite we can then project the model at 1:1 size and use it to…
