187 Kentish Town Road

This new 20 unit residential, commercial and cultural development in Kentish Town Road maintained the character of a much loved building, whilst increasing the sites potential. Heavily constrained on all sides by existing Victorian buildings, busy public highways, and the northern line tube tunnels below, SD Structures developed methodologies for construction to ensure successful construction.

The team fully embraced 3D modelling and coordination on this project, resulting on all aspects of the project being co-ordinated prior to construction down to 100mm openings for electrical cables.

To maximise the development potential, a new basement was constructed to house a state of the art cinema with a 12m transfer structure installed above. To eliminate the requirement for deep structual sections, SD Structures utilised ‘super-elevation’ of the steelwork; purposefully building the structure too tall and allowing the building to ‘shrink’ to the correct height under its own weight as the construction completes.

SD Structures have been instrumental in helping the team to coordinate the structure, existing facade, mechanical and electrical, and architecture…. on a complicated project comprising commercial space, a cinema basement and residential accommodation this proved instrumental to keeping the project on track.
