CLD Mixed Use Development – Block C

Proposed 25,000m2 mixed use development in Camberwell, Southwark set over 3 phases: Block A – building a hotel/ residential over the existing shopping centre; Block B – new build residential and Cinema over existing supermarket; Block C – 12 storey RC new build residential tower.

Block C – The proposed development at block C comprises  of mix residential, commercial and retail spaces. The structure is to be extended by 5 storeys on top of the existing building with a new hotel to the north part of the development and residential apartments to the south of the building. The key constraint for the development was to minimise disruption to the ground floor retail units which are to be retained. A detailed appraisal was carried out to explore options for the oversite development including storey deep Vierendeel girders to span over the existing units to strengthening and building on top of the existing structure. By undertaking specialist geotechnical and fabric surveys we have been able to justify the capacity of the existing structure without expensive and intrusive strengthening works or the need or heavy transfer.
