This domestic extension and refurbishment project involved the lowering of the ground floor of the property and underpinning the walls to create an additional storey at the rear.
A series of cranked steel frames support the split levels of the house without compromising the space with internal columns. A concrete pit is sunk into the lower ground floor to create a snug area, and a beautiful exposed concrete staircase creates the link between the floors.
The extension is then cladding in weathering steel (Corten) to create a contemporary look.
Having now worked on numerous projects together with SD, it is their ability to provide innovative and well-considered engineering solutions that set them apart. Importantly they approach every project as a collaboration with a desire to maintain the architectural aesthetic while providing responsive and cost-effective structural solutions.Grant Straghan - Director - DeDraft
