Holly & Daisy House Hotel

Holly & Daisy House Hotel

Redevelop potential unlocked for a 3 storey 1960’s office building to provide a 6 storey infill extension and 3 additional stories above the existing structure for a new Travel Lodge hotel chain.

The client stipulated that the ground floor retail space must remain operational therefore there was no opportunity to strengthen the existing columns and foundations for the additional weight from doubling the height of the building. Another Engineer had previously reported that the development was not viable so the client contacted SD given our growing reputation for delivering ambitious airspace development projects. We developed an innovative solution; creating a stiff infill structure for the extension and cantilevering out storey deep vierendeel frames to suspended the additional lightweight stories above the existing building. The project was elevated and the cost viability was overwhelmingly positive despite the unorthodox framing.

Project due onsite late 2019
