New Union Wharf

New Union Wharf is part of East Thames Housing regeneration project in the isle of dogs. The project involves building over 200 new social, private and affordable units delivered in 5 phases to facilitate the demolition, building and rehousing of the tenants already onsite. The scale of the project meant that an electrical sub station, energy centre and carparking were required below a podium level communal garden space which linked the buildings. The buildings range from 5 to 20 storey tower.

The complex mix of different flat types lead to extensive coordination of layouts with the structure and a series of shallow transfer structures were required. Challenging ground conditions included building on the site of historic dock and designing around buried river wall anchor thrust blocks, deep layers of made ground and an old buried slipway. The project was designed and delivered at BIM level 2.

*This project was undertaken whilst at a previous practice with significant involvement from a Director at SD Structures.
